ABOUT THE RICHTERS
David and Kelly Richter met in Nashville, TN, in the fall of 2000 while Kelly was working for a local troubled girls' home and David was serving as an intern with Reformed University Fellowship at Vanderbilt University. They were married in November of 2002 and almost immediately moved to Edinburgh Scotland, UK, to do short term mission work with a local city-center Free Church. After their return from the mission field, David and Kelly attended Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO, where Kelly earned a masters in counseling degree and David a masters of divinity.
In September of 2011, the Richters were invited and attended Mission to North America's Church Planting Assessment Center in Atlanta, GA. As a result of their assessment, they were fully approved to pursue church planting in the PCA.
In October of that year, they were contacted by Bob Sawyer, the director of the Christ The King Boston Church Planting Network, and asked to consider church planting in the Boston, MA, area. Over the next several months, the Lord began to knit the Richter's hearts to the city of Boston and particularly the neighborhood of Somerville, MA.
In May of 2012, the Richters were officially called by CTK Boston to plant a church in Somerville, MA, and to become the next site congregation of their multi-congregational church.
Then in Janurary of 2013, the Richters moved onto the field and began the work of church planting.
Since that time, the Lord has been doing some pretty amazing things. A launch team was formed. Weekly public services were launched (Sept 2014). Several people have come to know the Lord. Moreover, a new community of faith has begun to take root.
Despite the fact that New England is the birthplace of Christianity in the United States, it is currently the most unchurched region in our country today. There are 7.6 million people in the greater Boston area and only 2.5% of them are evangelical Christians. Moreover, there are only 13 evangelical churches for every 100,000 people and those churches have the smallest average attendance in the country.
There is incredible need in Boston. But the Lord is at work. We know that God does not need us to accomplish His work. But by His grace He has given us the incredible gift of being able to participate in His great rescue mission to save a people unto Himself and redeem His creation from the brokenness of the fall. We are excited about the opportunity to serve our King by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with the people of Somerville! Please pray about how you can partner with us to see this vision become a reality.
